Date Night: Friday, July 19, 2013
We are a little behind in posting on the blog because I, Jake, normally will write the bulk of them, and Jilly will make them sound good (and she has been REALLY BUSY)…
So with that, we have to fill you in on all the details of our lives. If you keep up with our blog, you will have noticed the “You’re Not Hardcore” series starting to unveil. Inbetween working and training, we haven’t had a lot of quality time (as we used to). So, we like to have date night’s and do something fun (and different) to keep the spark alive 🙂
So with that, I give you this month’s “Date Night” extravaganza:
The idea for this particular date night started in a bit of a selfish manner. The wife was doing a cleanse that would not allow her to eat gluten, dairy, sugar, yeast, alcohol, soy, fructose (fruit or other), and much much more. So basically we had to cook all of our meals in this EXTREMELY healthy fashion. The husband often had to suffer through this, due to my…I mean his…own dismay (because two sets of dinners/dishes is no fun!). As a result, he was feeling calorie-deficient and HUNGRY for something meaty, juicy, greasy and delicious. This inspired the search for the “best burger in Denver” as well as the theme for date night.
The husband knew the wife’s doctor appointment, and the likley end to his suffering, was on July 19, 2013. The mission of “The Best Burger in Denver” had begun. With a quick Google search and facebook post asking for help, the discovery of “Highlands Tap and Burger” was made. The wife suggested a Rockies game to round-out the evening in the city, so tickets were purchased and the date was planned. OH and bonus was that the Cubs were playing, so even more fun for the wife as a native Chicagoan.
The husband tried to keep it under wraps from the public, like a ninja on an assassination mission, but that attempt was foiled by two of their great friends; Johanna and Rick. No complaints from the wife or the husband on that one! On their way to the city, another friend, Kelly, inquired to the husband about their plans and by then it was decided, the more the merrier. In the end, the party consisted of Johanna, Rick, Kelly, her daughter Nina, and the husband and wife…aka Jake and Jill.
You may be wondering…well how were those burgers? Did they live up to their rating? I will let you be the judge, but based on my burger alone, I think you will get a very clear picture. It consisted of a 1/4lb organic beef patty, slow cooked pulled pork, candied bacon, Some variations of cheddar and provolone cheeses, topped with a fried egg (and a side of handmade fries). It wouldn’t be a proper Colorado dinner without a delicious Colorado Brew. One of the happy and unexpected results of the “date crashing” was the chauffeur service to the game after dinner (instead of the 1-mile walk). Even better than that, we somehow purchased “season” tickets (or at least that’s what they thought) so we didn’t have to wait in line like all the other suckers…we walked right in. We sat just 9 rows from the field so we had an incredible view of everything. The Cubs won 3-1 so it ended up being a “total winner” of a date night!
