Happy Birthday Jilly
So yesterday was super fun!!! Well not all fun, but it ended up that way in the end. It started out as any normal friday would – Jake went off to work as I conquered the web-space at home in my PJ’s. It took an ugly turn about 1PM when Jake called me and said the car won’t start, and oh by the way, I’m out in another town in a parking lot (though he wouldn’t tell me what he was actually purchasing). Normally. I suppose, this wouldn’t bother me at all, but I had major work deadlines that were rolling in and we had (secret) plans for the afternoon so I couldn’t stray from work for too long. So long story short, I went out to meet Jake, we find out we can’t open the hood of the car because the latch broke, and the “roadside assistance” was nothing more than a guy in a Lumina (not even a tool in his car) came out after about 45 minutes to basically give no help at all. He wouldn’t even call for a tow truck, and because of how the car insurance worked, he really couldn’t do much, so needless to say, Jake had to wait another hour until a tow came. I had to leave because of my huge deadlines which I would have missed had I waited another hour.
So anyway, once we finally got the car situation under control (turned out the battery died but because we couldn’t open the hood, we had to send it off to the mechanic) we headed out on a mystery journey (in rush hour) towards the city of Denver. Jake was pretty pissed but soon mellowed as we pulled into the ritzy-mall parking lot and he told me that the first order of the day was a Jilly Birthday Shopping Spree (with no $$ limit in mind). Now this is a VERY DANGEROUS thing to say to a girl who is genetically linked to many shopahaulics, but I took it easy (at first) and soon went wildly out of control spending too much but definitely stoked with all of my purchases! As we made our rounds through the stores, Jake kept checking his phone and texting (god knows who?) and I kept asking him what he was doing (as this is not a normal behavior). But he kept it cool and didn’t say anything…until we hit about our 5th store and he told me that I had to hurry up because we’d be late. At this point the questions started flowing – because I knew that he had something else up his sleeve.
So sure enough, we rushed outta there and headed toward a really posh part of the city called Writer Square. Once we pulled into the parking lot, I had a suspicion about where we were headed…a delectable restaurant with an outdoor fireplace called Red Square…and walked in and saw a rather large table in the back with a dozen of our closest friends sitting there with party hats on (and booze on the table!). It was an AWESOME night. We ate super gourmet food and drank TONS of fancy high-end Vodka (which I recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to wake up with a hangover – as I sit here now at the early morning hours feeling no pain and just a little dehydrated). It was an amazing meal and a wicked fun night hanging with everyone, I definitely wish we could do that sorta thing more often!
So, all-in-all, a really amazing evening shared with great friends and the best hubby ever! And that wasn’t even my REAL birthday…today shares that joy, although I’m sure we don’t have anything major happenin’ so hopefully it will still live up to be super fun, although it doesn’t really matter since yesterday filled the quota just fine. Yay for 29.
