AHH Disney, the most magical place on earth. There is no other place like it in the world…that is true. We went to Disney with my parents and our niece, Lucy for 5 days. Oh so much to pack into one little blog post, but I figure I would touch on all the highlights from each day…and of course show all the super fantastic photos of our vacay. It was also the celebration of my birthday, so a double-whammy for me!

This is the first part of 2-part documentary of the epic Seattle Lovers Getaway. We had to break it up because there is so much to say, and we didn’t want to over-inundate you with all the gory details! So with that we begin: PART 1
The big 11 year anniversary was rolling around the bend…wait wha??!?! 11 YEARS!!!? That’s right. Jilly and I celebrate our official anniversary of dating on February 28th every year. So 11 years ago, it became official and we haven’t looked back (too much).
In the past, we would celebrate this momentous occasion with a ski trip, since that was our tradition (and it was also when we officially started dating; on a ski trip). But the last few years, neither of us have really been into skiing/boarding because of my leg and her crappy skis and the overall expense. But we were also both super travel-hungry and aching for an excuse to go…anywhere!
We just got back from a super fantastic trip to Tucson, AZ and we wanted to share it with the 2 of you who read our blog. We are pretty exhausted from jet-lag, so I thought it’d be fun to reminisce before we have to go back to the normal daily grind of life.
Let me preface by saying that this trip has been in the back of my head for 2 long years. I read a small blip about an area called “Wild Iris” located about 25 miles south of Lander, WY and promptly bought the only guide book written for the area. Ever since then, I have been planning a trip. Unfortunately, I plan A LOT of trips and this one always took a back burner until this past weekend.
The evening before our planned early-morning departure, Jill was running some last-minute errands driving our ever-faithful Dodge Caravan when out of nowhere, it lost power. We just had it tuned up and put new wheels on it less than a week ago, so this was very much not expected. Thankfully the car re-started and she made it home to tell me the tale. I promptly tested the most likely suspect, the alternator, and the tester simply read, “ALTERNATOR BAD”. It was 12 hours before our scheduled departure.
Annapolis, Maryland is really beautiful and was so much fun to visit. We spent 4 days aboard Zufriedan, a 37-foot sloop rig with our captain Dave. We were going for our ASA 104 bareboat chartering certification, which we accomplished with flying colors. This trip was a little bit different than our last one to the Florida Keys because it was more about the inner-workings of the sailboat. Yes, we did a lot of sailing, but it was equally important to learn about how to work all of the systems aboard the boat, and maintain them.
