Day 7: ANTARCTICA

August 13, 2011
August 13, 2011

The last and final day of our eating challenge has come. It has been a long and wild ride, and we are happy that we could close it out on such a unique eating experience as Antarctica. We have to go into a little detail about this one, as it is not very common (or even likely) to find Antarctic cuisine in the everyday. We learned quite a bit about the culture of this cold, vast land. First thing, is that Antarctica (low and behold) is known for its amazing water….ICE water to be exact. So, true to form, we found the best glacial water we could to honor this land. Another interesting fact is that besides fresh sea-life (like whale, dolphin, seal, penguin, and fish) it is almost impossible for any fresh item to find its way into Antarctica. Local’s will bake their breads fresh, but anything else that they eat will come from a box or a can. So, we decided to bake our own “Antarctic” bread and found some canned green beans and cous cous for our sides, followed by canned peaches with cinnamon. Our fresh fish main course was a halibut, which we pan-fried. All-in-all, Antarctica was a big challenge, but we feel that we rose to the occassion and ended our eating tour on a super-high note!
