Moab Reunion
We went back down to Moab for a short weekend of climbing, camping and a mini Challis’ family reunion. We arrived on friday around 5pm and planned to camp at the KOA since that’s where everyone else was planning to stay. It was packed! Plus it didn’t really feel like camping, as there were cabins, bathrooms, showers, a swimming pool, shopping area, even wireless internet! But we were not there for us, we were there to visit with Jake’s fam., so we sucked it up and settled in.
Jake’s brother Mike and girlfriend Jess pulled in around 830PM and we hung out and chatted for a few hours before hitting the hay. The next morning, Jake and I went bouldering before the heat of the day took over. After a few hours in the shade, the sun reared its hotness and we decided to call it. Plus Jake’s mom and sister were going to be arriving soon, so we figured we should head back to camp to greet them. When they pulled in around 1pm, we spent the rest of the day sitting in the shade and catching up – it was pretty nice. We planned to do a sunset hike in Arches National Park, but we got up there a little too late, so instead we drove around and took lots of pics and enjoyed the quiet (since our campsite was packed, it was our only reprieve from the noise of people).
Sunday we decided to go to Dead Horse Point, another beautiful park with tons of spectacular views. We also decided that this is the place we are going to camp next time we go down to Moab! It was a perfectly cloudy day which made the hiking even more enjoyable. But Jake and I had to get back home since we both had work the next morning, so we took off around 1pm.
It was a really enjoyable couple of days and a nice chance for us to visit with Jake’s family. Here are some pics of our adventures:
